INTERVIEW WITH THE FASHION ICON MARIA SIMION

When you look up to the clothes of MARIA SIMION, one of the most important Romanian Fashion Designer, it seems to travel back in time and stay in Queen Victoria's court. If you imagine to wear a dress she creates you can emphatize with the most noble and at the same time sexy woman in Victorian age.

Indeed her magic touch gives at every single dress a baroque, romantic and rococo style.

In 2007 Maria Simion launched her private label WONDERLOLITA and in the same year she set up in the centre of BUCHAREST her first shop with the idea to produce clothes totally womanly prêt -à-porter.

Her success is always up to grade and she won in 2011 the award as "Best Designer Prêt -à-porter" that gives her the opportunity to be known in Romania and Italy. 

Now her clothes are requested and dressed by many actresses and models.

Among corsets, skirts and sparkling paillettes Maria reveals her secrets about Romania answering my questions.

I: Maria, Romania is a beautiful Nation, what can you tell about it? Are there any particular places you suggest to visit or you like more?

M: Romania is a really beautiful place, there are lot of amazing things to see. It is a nation with a great history and full of friendly people in every region of the country.

People, who had the opportunity to visit Romania, have been astonished by its natural beauty. Our people continues strong traditional valours which are reflected by many recurrences, celebrations and traditional costumes that are real works of art.

I think God had given Romania the best things he created: mountains, forests, sea and persons who still believe in Romanian traditional valours.

There are lot of things to visit in Romania but if I have to make a list I propose you Danube, many monasteries located in the north of the country, precisely in the MARAMURES region, PRAHOVA VALLEY with its PELES CASTLE and to completa MAMAIA BLACK SEA.

I: Actually you are working and living in Bucharest, in your opinion what have a tourist absolutely to do or to visit in this beautiful city?

M: In Bucharest there is the famous POPULAR HOUSE, an enormous palace with eight floors underground that is worth visiting together with the ARC OF TRIUMPH and the countless museums displaced in the city.  

Many persons have still the passion for many kinds of art and culture so I could suggest the ROMANIAN NATIONAL ART MUSEUM and the NATIONAL OPERA & BALLET where you can find lot of artists in order to promote our brand new talents because they believe in our valours.

As a matter of fact for the promotion of my last collection A/W 2013 "Antique Diamonds" I have had the great opportunity to personally collaborate with two big opera's artists such as Alice and Hector Lopez.

I: Are there restaurants, pubs do you recommend where you can taste traditional Romanian food?

M: There are lots of restaurants in Bucharest where you can find traditional food, for example I advise to go to BISTRO LATAIFAS (www.bistrotaifas.ro) where you can taste our famous dish SARMALE and mush with pork meat.
Another good restaurant to eat Romanian food is CARU' CU BERE (www.carucubere.ro).

In Bucharest there are also many places where besides eating you can taste our local wines and I recommend to go to the restaurant CRAMA DOMNEASCA (www.cramadomenasca.com).
MOLDAVIA is one of the most famous region concerning the wine's production, a land full of vineyards and people who still produce "homemade" wine, keeping alive in this way our tradition.
Finally you can't absolutely miss TRANSYLVANIA, the land whre you can find lots of typical restaurants as CRAMA HAIDUCILOR (www.crama-haiducilor.ro) placed in the city of CLUJ NAPOCA.

I: Working in fashion sector have you ever visited Italy? Is there a city you liked more or a city you are curios to visit?  
M: I love Italy very much, I had the occasion to present one of my collection in Milan, a city I keep in my heart.

Every year I come back here to visit it and I always consider it a jewel box full of secrets and that is the thing I appreciate more about Milan. It will be also a dream for me to have the possibility to present my collections also in Rome.

INTERVISTA ALL'ICONA DELLA MODA MARIA SIMION

Quando si ammirano gli abiti di MARIA SIMION, una delle più importanti Fashion Designer romene emergenti, sembra di fare un viaggio nel tempo e ritrovarsi a corte della Regina Vittoria. Se si immagina di indossare un abito che lei stessa crea ci si può immedesimare come la più nobile ma al contempo sexy donna dell'epoca vittoriana, infatti il suo tocco magico dona ad ogni capo uno stile barocco, romantico e rococò. Nel 2007 l'irrefrenabile Maria Simion lancia la sua prima private label WONDERLOLITA e lo stesso anno apre in centro a BUCAREST (n.d.r) il suo primo negozio omonimo con l'intento di creare capi di abbigliamento estremamente femminili prêt -à-porter. 

Il suo successo sempre in ascesa la porta a vincere nel 2011 il premio come "Best Designer Prêt -à-porter" che le apre le porte della notorietà romena ed europea.

I suoi capi sono richiesti ed indossati da molte attrici e modelle. 

Tra corsetti, gonne e paillettes luccicanti Maria mi svela dei segreti sulla Romania rispondendo alle mie domande.

I: Maria, la Romania è una gran bella nazione, che cosa ci puoi raccontare in merito? Ci sono delle particolari località che suggerisci di visitare o che ti piacciono in particolar modo?

M: La Romania è un paese davvero stupendo, ci sono tantissime cose bellissime. E' una nazione con una storia alle spalle e colma di abitanti amichevoli in qualsiasi regione del paese. Coloro che hanno avuto l'occasione di visitare la Romania sono rimasti stupefatti dalla sua bellezza natuale.

Il nostro popolo conserva forti valori tradizionali che manifesta attraverso varie ricorrenze, feste e sfilando con i costumi tradizionali che sono delle vere opere d'arte. Io penso che Dio abbia voluto lasciare in Romania le cose più belle che ha creato: le montagne, le foreste, il mare e le persone che ancora credono nei valori tradizionali del paese.

Ci sono tantissime cose da visitare in Romania ma se dovessi stilare una classifica ti proporrei il Danubio, i vari monasteri che si trovano nel nord della nazione, precisamente nella regione MARAMURES, PRAHOVA VALLEY con il suo CASTELLO PELES ed infine MAMAIA BLACK SEA.

I: Attualmente lavori e vivi a Bucarest, secondo te che cosa deve assolutamente fare o visitare un turista in questa bella città?

M: A Bucarest si trova la famosa CASA DEL POPOLO che apparteneva a Ceausescu, un palazzo enorme con otto piani sottoterra che vale davvero la pena di visitare assieme all'ARCO TRIUMF e agli innumerevoli musei che sono dislocati per tutta la città. Molte persone mantengono ancora la passione per varie arti e culture e potrei consigliare il TEATRO NAZIONALE BUCAREST e l'OPERA NAZIONALE BUCAREST dove si trovano tantissimi artisti al fine di promuovere i nostri talenti e che credono nei nostri valori. Difatti alla presentazione della mia ultima collezione "Antique Diamonds" A/I 2013 ho avuto la grande opportunità di collaborare con due grandi artisti d'opera come Alice e Hector Lopez.

I: Ci sono dei locali, ristoranti, pub che consiglieresti e dove si può degustare cipi tipici della cucina romena?

M: Ci sono moltissimi locali a Bucarest dove possiamo trovare dei piatti tipici tradizionali, per esempio raccomando il BISTRO LATAIFAS (www.bistrotaifas.co) dove si può degustare il noto piatto SARMALE e la polenta con carne suina.

Un altro buon ristorante per assaporare sempre cucina romena è CARU' CU BERE (www.carucubere.ro).

A Bucarest ci sono anche tantissimi locali dove oltre a mangiare si possono degustare i nostri vini locali e consiglio di recarsi al ristorante CRAMA DOMNEASCA (www.cramadomneascca.com). La MOLDAVIA è una delle regioni più famose per quanto riguarda la produzione del vino, terra colma di vigneti e di persone che producono ancora il vino "in casa" conservando in questo modo la nostra tradizione.

Infine non si deve assolutamente dimenticare la TRANSILVANIA, regione dove si possono trovare tantissimi ristoranti tipici come per esempio il ristorante CRAMA HAIDUCILOR (www.crama-haiducilor.ro) nella città di CLUJ NAPOCA.

I: Lavorando nel settore moda ti è capitato anche di visitare l'Italia? C'è una città che ti è piaciuta oppure che saresti curiosa di visitare?

  

M: Mi piace tantissimo l'Italia, ho avuto l'occasione di presentare una delle mie collezioni a Milano, una città che mi è rimasta nel cuore. Ogni anno ritorno qui per visitarla e la considero sempre uno scrigno colmo di segreti e proprio per questo motivo mi piace assai. Per me sarebbe un sogno poter presentare le mie collezioni anche a Roma.
