INTERVISTA AL PALLAVOLISTA OLEG ANTONOV

Nella pallavolo uno dei requisiti essenziali per poter giocare ad alti livelli agonistici è sicuramente l'altezza e il giovanissimo OLEG ANTONOV non è da meno. I suoi 2 metri circa di altezza potrebbero mettere un pò in soggezione chi non è abituato, come me, a ritrovarsi di fianco a delle statue greche, sensazione che però si placa poiché lui è un umile professionista. Nonostante Oleg sia nato nella capitale russa, da parecchi anni gioca in Italia nel ruolo di opposto e attualmente concorre nel campionato di serie A di pallavolo maschile con la società del PIEMONTE VOLLEY.

Con questa intervista il giocatore ci svela delle curiosità sulla sua città natale e che cosa più gli piace dell'Italia.

I: Oleg, sei nato nell'imponente Mosca. Nonostante sia molto conosciuta turisticamente, secondo te quali sono i luoghi da visitare assolutamente?

O: Grazie alla mia attività sportiva ho avuto la possibilità di viaggiare molto e visitare svariati paesi e città; nonostante ciò MOSCA rimane tra le città più belle ed affascinanti (e lo dico cercando di pormi con occhio quanto più obiettivo, accantonando l'inevitabile sentimento che mi lega alla mia terra).

In primo luogo credo che Mosca sia il vero emblema della Russia, la prima città che si incontra procedendo da occidente, in cui si respirano le autentiche tradizioni ancora prive di reali contatti con l'Europa. Mosca è una grande metropoli di circa 15 milioni di abitanti e dalla superficie alquanto estesa. E' suddivisa in 7 anelli concentrici di cui il più piccolo è chiamato "anello d'oro" poiché ospita le più celebri fortezze su cui poggia l'intera nazione oggi e poggiava ieri il vecchio regime sovietico e ancora prima l'epoca degli Zar. Le attrazioni e le cose da visitare sarebbero infinite, personalmente non conosco alla perfezione la mia città. La PIAZZA ROSSA (in russo Krasnaja Ploshad') è indiscutibilmente il luogo più significativo; l'ingresso è delimitato dal MUSEO STORICO DI STATO e al suo interno, a ridosso delle mura del Cremlino, è collocato il MAUSOLEO DI LENIN.

Il CREMLINO è il noto palazzo politico e religioso simbolo di tutta la nazione, dalle mura rosse che circoscrivono da un lato parte del perimetro della Piazza Rossa e dall'altro si affacciano sul fiume Moscova. Non da meno, la solenne e maestosa Piazza ospita la splendida CATTEDRALE DI SAN BASILIO, conosciuta per le sue cupole colorate. Un altro famoso monumento religioso è la CATTEDRALE DI CRISTO SALVATORE, situata anch'essa sulle sponde del fiume Moscova. Inoltre, chi vuole davvero conoscere le meraviglie di questa città non può non avvalersi del mezzo più diffuso: la metropolitana. Si tratta di un vero e proprio monumento artistico e architettonico, in cui ciascuna fermata è unica e diversa dalle altre. E' definita la metropolitana più bella al mondo, grazie alla quale si possono raggiungere altre mete situate in zone periferiche della città: il GORKIJ PARK, un parco divertimenti costruito a ridosso del fiume; il PARK POBEDIJ in cui si trova il celebre monumento dedicato alla vittoria.

Rimanendo ancorati alla tradizione russa, non posso omettere VDNCh (Esposizione delle Conquiste dell'Economia Popolare) che è la fermata della metropolitana dalla quale si raggiunge l'illustre MUSEO DEI COSMONAUTI, riconoscibile dall'esterno grazie alla presenza di un obelisco in titanio alto circa 100 metri. Emblematica è anche l'Università di Mosca situata sulla collina chiamata Vorobiovij Gorij. Infine per gli appassionati di shopping menziono ARBAT, il viale per eccellenza che custodisce i migliori marchi e boutiques.

I: Oleg, Mosca negli ultimi anni ha raggiunto un'ampia espansione turistica. Ci sono ristoranti, bar o locali che preferisci?

O: Come in tutte le grandi città anche a Mosca catene di ristoranti tipici offrono ai turisti le specialità culinarie proprie di ciascun paese. Nella mia città la catena più famosa è ELKI PALKI (www.elki-palki.ru/moskva). Oltre agli svariati ristoranti nelle vicinanze di Piazza Rossa a me piace frequentare anche locali situati al di fuori dell'immediato centro città, in zone più periferiche; tra questi il mio preferito è lo YACHT CLUB e si trova a due passi da casa mia che sorge sulle sponde del fiume ed è attorniato da un parco bellissimo.

I: Oleg, la Russia è nota anche per la vodka. Ma sapresti indicarmi un piatto tipico della cucina russa che più ti piace?

O: Nell'immaginario collettivo sicuramente la vodka è ciò che più caratterizza la Russia, un pò come la pizza per l'Italia. In realtà, il piatto forte sono le zuppe che prendono il nome dagli ingredienti con le quali vengono cucinate: dalla carne, al pesce, alle verdure. Da grande amante della carne preferisco il BORSH. Inoltre è tradizione comune e diffusa uscire dal centro caotico della città per raggiungere il fiume o le DACIE - case di campagna in compagnia della famiglia o degli amici; in queste occasioni vengono allestiti veri e propri spiedi su cui vengono cucinate carni di ogni tipo. Nonostante a Mosca queste uscite siano più frequenti, mi ricordano molto le "scampagnate" che in Italia si organizzano saltuariamente per il lunedì di Pasqua, il 25 aprile, 1 maggio o il 2 giugno.

I: Oleg, da molti anni giochi in Italia. Ti piacerebbe giocare in altre Nazioni? E per quale motivo?

O: Da molti anni gioco in Italia e quindi rappresenta la mia casa adottiva a cui sono profondamente legato sia da un punto di vista sentimentale sia professionale. Nonostante ciò non escluderei un'esperienza all'estero; credo che potrebbe essere motivo di crescita e di arricchimento per il mio bagaglio lavorativo e personale. In ogni caso, se sarà...non sarà in questo momento! L'unica cosa che vorrei sottolineare è che a mio parere conoscere e venire a contatto con culture e tradizioni rispetto alla routine a cui siamo abituati siano le migliori medicine per allargare i propri confini e aprire nuovi orizzonti.

I: Oleg, nel tuo tempo libero durante le vacanze rimani in Italia o ti rechi all'estero? Preferisci mare, montagna o altre forme di ferie?

O: La mia fidanzata è italiana mentre la mia famiglia vive a Mosca; per questo in estate quando sono libero dagli impegni pallavolistici, mi piace stare un pò in Italia e un pò a Mosca. Per ciò che concerne nello specifico le vacanze estive preferisco il mare. Non nascondo che non mi dispiacciano nemmeno le escursioni in montagna o momenti di villeggiatura al lago. Se però dovessi scegliere, da appassionato di sub, metterei il mare al primo posto. Tra Italia o estero non ho preferenze, credo di essere molto fortunato a vivere in uno dei paesi più belli e "ricchi" del mondo in cui dalle montagne al mare, dalle colline ai laghi, dalle isole ai vulcani c'è l'imbarazzo della scelta. Mi è piaciuta molto la vacanza all'arcipelago della Maddalena: io e la mia ragazza avevamo prenotato il soggiorno nella piccola isola di Santo Stefano per poi visitare l'intero arcipelago e spingersi fino a Bonifacio: un paradiso! Sono stato anche all'estero, dalla Turchia alla Tunisia, dalla Grecia alle Maldive: sono luoghi ciascuno con fascino, bellezze e caratteristiche propri. Insomma, quando si tratta di viaggiare e scoprire posti nuovi non riesco mai a dir di no!

INTERVIEW WITH VOLLEYBALL PLAYER MARIA LAMPRINIDOU

From the close Greece it is attained in Italy this year one of the best european middle blocker: MARIA LAMPRINIDOU. Currently this young girl is playing in the italian woman volleyball championship by the VOLLEY 2002 FORLI' team but she is proud of her volleyball career obtained through greek competitions and 2012/2013 french championship where she has been declared "best block". Waiting this year for the same title, actually we can proof something more about Greece, her motherland, through this precious interview.

I: Maria, you were born in Mitilene, a city that has an important history. Can you tell us what it is possible to visit and in your opinion what are the best and beautiful shores in this town?

M: MITILENE is the state capital of the island LESVOS, the third bigger island in Greece, facing Turkey. We had been a domain of an italian family, Gattilusio from Genoa to be more precise, who had built the fortress that nowadays surrounding the hills.

In addition to Castro, we still preserve something from Italy, infact lot of our greek words finished in "li" as in italian. Without doubt we still have also a turkish influence, not only for a geographic proximity but also for historic reasons because the island had been dominated by the Ottoman Impire for around 500 years till first years of '900. Noteworthy there are the roman aqueduct and theatre. The story of our island can be noticed in our archeological museum while the story of our culture can be found in our folklore museum. Lesvos is a tourist island but maintains the serenity and the beauty of the nature. All this is perfect for family holidays.

In my opinion the best beach of the island is VATERA, it is very important for me because it is next to the village of my father. It is situated in the south of the island and it is the biggest. Because of its geographic position, this beach is protected by the summer winds so there aren't big waves. The colour of the sand is dark but the sea is always crystal clear.

I: Maria, apart Mitilene, are there other important places on the Lesvos island that you suggest to visit?

M: Must to see: MOLYVOS is located on the north of the island and it is one of the most beautiful village in Greece. The sunsets of Molyvos are unmatched. The harbour area is full of traditional taverns where you can eat fish and drink ouzo, the national cocktail of which we are the best producers. The houses architecture of Molyvos denote the turkish style and their façades have stone colours. ERESSOS is the village where the poetess Saffo was born and in the past it has had a strong tourist development, especially by the lesbians who consider the role of the poetess as a freedom model.

At the beginning there has been suspicion and sometimes discrimination by people, but fortunally the world is evolving and there is mind-changing, so nowadays the hospitality is higher. Another unequalled place is the stone forest that is extended across ERESSOS and SIGRI. Lesvos is an island with volcanic origin and millions years ago an eruption of Ordymnos volcano had implicated forests, oaks or plane trees. The hydrotermic energy had trasformed the plants' life substances into stone.

I: Maria, what kind of restaurants, pubs or discos do you like more?

M: I recommend PARASOL in Eressos, it is famous for cocktails you can drink while you are dancing or listening to latin-american music on the seaside. In Molyvos I prefer CONGAS. This city has a half-round position, infact from this pub, placed on the seacoast, you can look at the village on the hills.

I: Maria, do you like other Greek islands? And why?

M: The islands in Greece are different from each other but they have their beauty and charm. Shores are distinct by kind of sand and colour of water. I adore the greek sea because in my opinion it is the best. You can find islands with a funny and amazing night-life but for my holidays I look for sea and nature above all. This year I was in Cefalonia island and I loved it very much.

I: Maria, you have studied at Athens University. Did you find particular shops, restaurants, pubs or discos?

M: In ATHENS I was an unusual university student. My time was divided between lessons (I graduated in Marketing and Communication) and volleyball, so I haven't spare time for me just to appreciate the city in freedom and with carefreeness. I like very much the centre of Athens because there are lot of tiny and discreet locals, one next to another. These pubs, as in all the big city, have moments of big explosive success and then they go down and substituted by other more modern that propose something new. I adore a pub inside an hotel facing on Monastiraki Place because you can see the Athens' Acropoli by its balconies.

INTERVISTA ALLA PALLAVOLISTA MARIA LAMPRINIDOU

Dalla vicina Grecia è approdata quest'anno in Italia una delle migliori centrali europee: MARIA LAMPRINIDOU. Questa giovane ragazza attualmente gioca nel campionato di serie A presso la squadra di pallavolo VOLLEY 2002 FORLI' ma vanta una carriera pallavolista acquisita nei tornei greci e nel campionato francese del 2012/2013 dove è stata anche eletta "miglior muro". Chissà se replicherà quest'anno lo stesso titolo e nel frattempo approfondiamo la nostra curiosità sulla sua patria natia, la Grecia, mediante questa preziosa intervista.

I: Maria, sei nata a Mitilene, città con un importante passato storico. Ci puoi raccontare che cosa si può visitare e secondo te quali sono le migliori spiagge in questa zona?

M: MITILENE è il capoluogo dell'isola di LESVOS, la terza più grande isola della Grecia, di fronte alla Turchia. Siamo stati un feudo di una famiglia italiana, genovese per la precisione, i Gattilusio che hanno costruito la fortezza che ancora oggi domina la collina.

Oltre al Castro, gli italiani ci hanno lasciato un'eredità nel nostro modo di parlare infatti molte delle nostre parole terminano in "li" come in italiano. E' anche innegabile l'influenza della Turchia, non solo per la vicinanza geografica ma anche perché l'isola è stata per 500 anni circa sotto l'impero ottomano fino ai primi anni del '900. Imperiosi sono l'acquedotto ed il teatro romano. Il racconto della nostra storia lo potete trovare nel nostro museo archeologico, mentre la nostra cultura è raccontata nel museo del folclore. Lesvos è un'isola turistica che conserva però la tranquillità e la bellezza della natura. Tutto ciò la rende perfetta per le vacanze delle famiglie. 

La miglior spiaggia dell'isola a mio parere è VATERA, ci sono molto legata poiché è vicina al villaggio di mio padre. Si trova nella parte sud dell'isola ed è la più vasta. La sua posizione geografica le consente di essere protetta dai venti estivi e quindi non ci sono quasi mai grandi onde. La sabbia è scura ma l'acqua è sempre cristallina.

I: Maria, oltre alla città di Mitilene, vi sono altri luoghi importanti sull'isola di Lesvos che tu consiglieresti di visitare?

M: Da vedere assolutamente MOLYVOS che si trova nel nord dell'isola, è uno dei villaggi più belli della Grecia. I tramonti di Molyvos sono unici. La zona del porto è ricca di taverne tradizionali dove si può mangiare pesce e bere l'ouzo, l'aperitivo nazionale di cui siamo i migliori produttori. L'architettura delle case di Molyvos rispecchia assai lo stile turco e le loro facciate hanno il colore della pietra. ERESSOS è invece il villaggio natale della poetessa Saffo ed in passato ha avuto un forte sviluppo turistico soprattutto da parte delle donne omosessuali che rivedevano nella figura della poetessa un modello di libertà. Inizialmente c'è stata diffidenza e qualche caso di discriminazione, poi per fortuna il mondo si evolve e la mentalità delle persone si apre ed ora l'accoglienza è elevata.

Un posto unico al mondo è la foresta pietrificata che si estende tra ERESSOS e SIGRI. Lesvos è un'isola di origine vulcanica e sembra che milioni di anni fa un'eruzione del vulcano Ordymnos abbia coinvolto le foreste presenti, querce o platani. L'energia idrotermica ha trasformato le sostanze vitali delle piante in pietra.

I: Maria, quali sono i ristoranti, bar, discoteche e altri locali che più ti piacciono in quest'isola? 

M: Un locale che consiglio è il PARASOL di Eressos, famoso per i cocktails che puoi sorseggiare ballando o ascoltando musica latino americana sulla spiaggia. A Molyvos mi piace CONGAS. Questa città ha una struttura semicircolare, dalla spiaggia dove si trova questo locale si può osservare il paese che si arrampica sulla collina.

I: Maria, ti piacciono altre isole greche oltre la tua? Per quale motivo?

M: Le isole della Grecia sono una diversa dall'altra ma tutte hanno la loro bellezza e fascino. Le spiagge sono differenti per tipologia di sabbia e colore dell'acqua. Adoro il mare della Grecia, per me è unico. Ci sono isole con una vita notturna vivace e meravigliosa, però per le mie vacanze ricerco soprattutto il mare e la natura. Quest'estate mi sono recata a Cefalonia e mi è piaciuta molto.

I: Maria, hai studiato l'Università ad Atene. Ci sono dei particolari negozi, ristoranti, bar o locali notturni che raccomandi di visitare?

M: Ad ATENE sono stata una studentessa atipica. Il mio tempo si divideva tra le lezioni in facoltà (mi sono laureata in Comunicazione e Marketing) e la pallavolo. Non ho quindi vissuto la città con la spensieratezza e la libertà di altri normali studenti semplicemente perché non avevo del tempo libero da ritagliarmi. Una zona della città che ho amato particolarmente è il centro poiché vi sono tanti locali piccolini, intimi ed accoglienti, uno accanto all'altro. I locali di Atene, come in tutte le principali capitali, hanno momenti di esplosione e grandissimo successo ma poi vengono sostituiti da quelli nuovi, più alla moda che propongono qualcosa che non era presente precedentemente. Adoro però un bar all'interno di un hotel che si affaccia su Piazza Monostiraki. Dai suoi balconi si ammira l'acropoli di Atene.

INTERVIEW WITH VOLLEYBALL PLAYER CIARA MICHEL

She is very young, very tall, very beautiful. All these adjectives represent the sporty CIARA MICHEL. This year the english volleyball player is playing in the volleyball italian female championship with the notorious team Unendo Yamamay Futura Volley Busto Arsizio. Someone says she is like an "octopus" because her block is everywhere, infact she plays very good in the role of Middle Blocker. Although she is so young, she has a big professional experience gathering among the fields of Miami, Amburgo, Melbourne and London where she has represented the english national team during 2012 Olympic Games. Find out what she said in this interview.

I: Ciara, you were born in the quiet town of TAUNTON, Great Britain. What can you notice in this area?

C: I was born in Taunton, but in fact grew up in the even smaller town of SOMERTON. My memory of these places are of rolling green hills from here to the horizon, scattered with cows and sheep, and tractors rumbling slowly down intersecting country roads. We would often play in barns and climb hay bails, ride horses through the forests, and even roll around in the mud with the piglets in summer. As far as places that attract many tourists, I wouldn't know where to begin. The only local gem I remember is STONEHENGE, which is an ancient marvel, and a must-see for any traveller through the area.

I: Ciara, currently you play in Italy, but you represent also the english national team. When you go to London, how do you spend your free time outside the gym? 

C: I represented Great Britain for 2 years, including as part of the host nation team at the 2012 Olympics. London during this time was an amazing place to be; buzzing with energy and excitement, and since then I will never see it the same way. For me, it will forever be the place where my dream of becoming an Olympian was made a reality. I am in London only a few days a year, and when I go I spend most of time with my aunts and cousins, or in the few bits of green in the parks scattered throughout the city. 

I like to explore and get lost on my own, which is easy to do in such a big city, and find myself somewhere to drink a coffee, listen to music and people-watch.

I: Ciara, you have played in various countries such as Australia, Germany and USA. Have you found differences between these states? And what did you like most about each country?

C: My favourite place is still Australia.

I fell in love with the people and culture, and felt really at home there. There is a laid-back, friendly atmosphere which corresponds perfectly with the fantastic weather. MELBOURNE, where I spent the majority of my time, is a vibrant, cultural city with enough variety for the taste of every traveller: art, music, beach and nightlife. In Germany I spent most of my time in AACHEN, KÖLN and HAMBURG; I found many beautiful architectural feats, and their passion for beer is unrivaled, but the food left something to be desired (especially in comparision to Italy!). The level of volleyball in USA is the highest of the three and living in MIAMI is quite an experience in itself!

I: Ciara, if you had to choose another state in order to pursue your volleyball career, where would you go and why?

C: I am really happy so far here in Italy, so if I am lucky I can stay several years. There are only several countries, such as Turkey and Azerbaijan which have an equal or higher level of volleyball, and more money available for players, but the all-around lifestyle in Italy is unrivaled. I enjoy prosciutto crudo with buffalo mozzarella for lunch every day!

I: Ciara, do you have a favourite holiday place?

C: I love to find new "favourite" places, so anywhere with sun and sand is a good start! I loved PANAMA, in the rainforest where my sister had her wedding. Surfing and skydiving in CAIRNS and then diving the Great Barrier Reef were unique and amazing experiences. I also had a great time on a cruise in the Caribbean with friends during university. Next on my list is an African safari and a sushi excursion in Japan!

INTERVISTA ALLA PALLAVOLISTA CIARA MICHEL

E' giovanissima, è altissima, è bellissima. Tutti questi aggettivi rappresentano l'atleta CIARA MICHEL. La pallavolista inglese da quest'anno gioca nel campionato femminile italiano di pallavolo in Serie A presso la rinomata squadra Unendo Yamamay Futura Volley Busto Arsizio. Da qualcuno soprannominata "piovra" il suo ruolo da centrale lo fa benissimo: il suo muro è dovunque.

Seppur così giovane Ciara ha alle spalle una carriera ed esperienza professionale che si suddivide tra i campi di Miami, Amburgo, Melbourne e Londra dove ha rappresentato la nazionale inglese alle Olimpiadi del 2012.

Vediamo cosa ci racconta in questa breve intervista.

I: Ciara, sei nata nella tranquilla città di TAUNTON in Inghilterra. Che cosa si può notare in questo paese ?

C: Sono nata a Taunton ma in verità sono cresciuta in un altrettanto piccolo paese chiamato SOMERTON. I ricordi che ho di questi posti sono le interminabili colline verdi che si disperdono nell'orizzonte dove si incrociano mucche, pecore e trattori che attraversano tranquillamente le strade cittadine. Spesso da piccola giocavamo nelle fattorie, salivamo sopra le palle di fieno, cavalcavamo cavalli attraversando le foreste e in estate si inseguivano i maialini nel fango. Per quanto concerne vari luoghi turistici in queste zone non saprei da dove iniziare. Ti posso citare STONEHENGE, un'antica meraviglia, un luogo che ogni viaggiatore deve visitare se viene da queste parti.

I: Ciara, attualmente giochi in Italia ma rappresenti anche la squadra nazionale inglese. Quando ti rechi a Londra in quale modo trascorri il tuo tempo libero al di fuori della palestra? 

C: Ho rappresentato la Gran Bretagna per 2 anni incluso il team nazionale ai Giochi Olimpici del 2012. Londra durante questo periodo è stato un luogo straordinario, colmo di energia e frenesia e fino a quel momento non ho mai visto la città in quel modo. Per me sarà sempre il paese dove il mio sogno di diventare una giocatrice olimpionica si è trasformato in realtà. 

Mi reco a Londra solamente pochi giorni all'anno e ovviamente in questi momenti trascorro il tempo con i miei zii e genitori oppure tra i vari parchi. Mi piace esplorare e perdermi nella città, situazione che accade facilmente in una grande metropoli per poi ritrovarmi da qualche parte a bere un caffè, ascoltare musica e osservare le persone.

I: Ciara, hai giocato in varie nazioni quali Australia, Germania e USA. Hai notato differenze tra questi paesi? E che cosa invece hai apprezzato maggiormente?

C: Il mio luogo preferito rimane tuttora l'Australia. Mi sono innamorata della gente e della cultura e mi sono sentita veramente a casa. C'è un'atmosfera amichevole e distesa che corrisponde esattamente al clima fantastico che si trova. MELBOURNE, dove ho trascorso la maggior parte del mio tempo, è una città vibrante e culturale con un'enorme varietà di attrattive per ogni viaggiatore: arte, musica, spiaggia e vita notturna. In Germania ho passato molto tempo ad AACHEN, COLONIA e AMBURGO; ho trovato un sacco di bellissime architetture  e la loro passione per la birra è insuperabile ma per quanto riguarda il cibo tedesco lascia un pò a desiderare (specialmente se lo paragono a quello italiano!). Il livello negli Stati Uniti è il più alto rispetto agli altri stati dove ho giocato e vivere a MIAMI è stata una gran bella esperienza!

I: Ciara, se dovessi scegliere un'altra nazione per proseguire la tua carriera pallavolista dove ti piacerebbe andare e perché?

C: Sono molto contenta di essere in Italia quindi se sono fortunata ho la possibilità di restarvi per diversi anni. Ci sono alcuni paesi quali la Turchia e l'Azerbaijan che hanno un livello uguale o più alto di gioco e più disponibilità economiche per i giocatori ma lo stile di vita italiano è imbattibile. Ogni giorno per pranzo mi piace mangiare prosciutto crudo con mozzarella di bufala!

I: Ciara, hai un posto preferito per le vacanze?

C: Adoro scoprire nuovi luoghi, insomma ogni posto con sole e sabbia è un buon inizio! Mi è piaciuto il PANAMA e la sua foresta tropicale dove mia sorella si è sposata. Fare surfing e diving a CAIRNS e nella Grande Barriera Corallina sono state delle esperienze uniche e divertenti. Ho anche trascorso momenti divertenti in crociera ai Caraibi con amici durante il mio periodo universitario. Il prossimo luogo sulla mia lista sarà un safari africano e un'escursione di sushi in Giappone!

INTERVIEW WITH THE MODEL JODI KRONMANN

The artist JODI KRONMANN is an overseas beauty, born in Bolivia and grew up in a small country in United States. Nowadays she lives in New York where she works as model and actress. She is also known among the public with the nickname of Bolivian Doll because of her typical bolivian beauty.  With her interview we discover news about Bolivia, where she was born, and also update concerning the "Big Apple".

I: Jodi, you were born in SANTA CRUZ in Bolivia but you grew up in USA. Have you ever visited Santa Cruz and what do you suggest to see in this city?

J: Yes, I have visited and would recommend it as a travel destination. It has an amazing mix of cultures from all over the world that shows in the people, food and culture. The climate is tropical so the flora and fauna are like I have never seen. Amazing flowers and fruit trees and tropical birds are in abundance everywhere. There is a cosmopolitan lifestyle but also a country charm right outside the city that is worth a day trip to do some sight-seeing. The airport is international and takes you right to the city for ease of travel.

I: Jodi, do you have some particular memories about the city you grew up in USA you wish to tell us? What can you suggest to do if a tourist visits it?

J: I grew up in a few places. I would say if you are going to only visit one place in the U.S. aside from NYC, then go to the southwest. I spent a good number of years there growing up and there is no where else like it. The geography is completely unique to our country as well as the rugged "cowboy" culture. There are old western towns, rodeos, working cowboy ranches and Native American communities that captured the imaginations of many American novels, movies and works of art. It's almost best traveled by car and go from hotel to hotel, once you fly in so that you can see everything from the Rocky Mountains to the Grand Canyon, but be prepared for very long drives, our southwest is big!

I: Jodi, actually you live in NYC for your job. What are the places you reccomand to visit in this big city?

J: The best museum in the country and my favorite is on 5 ave and 81 street right in CENTRAL PARK and that's the METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART. The works of art rival any museum in the world and the museum itself is a beautiful NYC icon. Being next to the best and biggest park in the city you can lunch in a cafe inside the museum next to Tiffany glass installations and Rodin sculptures while overlooking Central Park. Afterwards I would suggest taking a horse and buggy ride through the park perhaps stopping at the PLAZA HOTEL which was recently renovated and in my opinion is the most beautiful hotel in the city. They have a wonderful lobby with a very trendy bar you can have a cocktail in. If you come to NYC you should also visit WALL STREET to see first hand the buildings and people that drive out countries economy and of couse please visit the 9-11 memorial which is at the site of the old World Trade Center and say a prayer for the innocent New Yorkers who lost their lives in our city's greatest tragedy.

I: Jodi, what do you do in your spare time in NYC? Do you like mostly a restaurant, pub, disco or other where you spend your free time?

J: The best places to go for fun and to meet people are probably in the meat packing district which is on the west side lower-mid Manhattan. There are fun cafes for dinner before you go to one of the many clubs, bars and beer gardens in the neighborhood plus a great diner that's open late to grad something greasy and typical American to eat after a night of drinking and dancing before you turn in.

I: Jodi, have you ever visited Italy? What do you think about this Nation?

J: I did a bunch of years ago with my family. We stopped on a cruise in Bari and Venice. Firstly I have to say the food was beyond amazing. Everything your country has such an outstanding reputation for I found to be true. The buildings were so charming and the people beautiful and fashionable and quite warm and friendly. I really enjoyed my time there, my only regret was it was way to short of time and I wish I had seen more.

L'artista JODI KRONMANN è una bellezza d'oltreoceano, nata in Bolivia, cresciuta in un piccolo paese degli Stati Uniti e attualmente vive a New York dove esercita la sua professione di modella ed attrice.

E' anche conosciuta al pubblico come la "Bolivian Doll" poiché la sua fisicità richiama la tipica bellezza boliviana.

Attraverso la sua intervista scopriremo curiosità e particolarità della Bolivia, il suo stato natale, e aggiornamenti riguardanti la grande mela.

I: Jodi, sei nata a SANTA CRUZ in Bolivia ma sei cresciuta in USA. Sei mai stata nella tua città natale e che cosa ci suggeriresti di visitare?

J: Sì, ho visitato la città che raccomando come destinazione turistica. Vi si trova un sorprendente mix di culture da tutte le parti del mondo che viene trasmesso dalle persone, dal cibo e attraverso la cultura. Il clima è tropicale e non ho mai visto una così bella flora e fauna. Ci sono in abbondanza e ovunque alberi con frutti, meravigliosi fiori e uccelli tropicali. Contemporaneamente si respira una vita cosmopolita ma anche uno charme rurale fuori la città e quindi ne vale la pena di fare una visita di un giorno a Santa Cruz. E' molto semplice raggiungere il centro della città dall'aeroporto internazionale. 

I: Jodi, hai dei ricordi particolari che ci vuoi narrare riguardo la piccola città dove sei cresciuta? Che cosa consiglieresti ad un turista?

J: Sono cresciuta in vari posti. Vorrei consigliare a coloro che decidono di visitare un solo luogo degli Stati Uniti d'America, a parte NYC, di recarsi nel sud-ovest. Ho trascorso parecchi anni laggiù e non vi è nessun luogo migliore. La posizione è assolutamente unica come lo è anche la "cultura del cowboy". Ci sono vecchie città western, i rodei, la possibilità di lavorare in un ranch di cowboy e di conoscere le comunità dei nativi americani che ispirano molti racconti, film e opere artistiche americane. La miglior soluzione per viaggiare è con l'automobile e spostarsi da hotel ad hotel, solo in questo modo si può osservare tutto: dalle Rocky Mountains al Grand Canyon, ma bisogna essere preparati per lunghi percorsi, il nostro sud-ovest è vasto!

I: Jodi, attualmente vivi a New York per motivi lavorativi. Quali luoghi consigli di visitare in questa grande città?

J: Il miglior museo e anche il mio preferito si trova sulla 5 avenue e 81 strada direttamente nel CENTRAL PARK ed è il METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART. Le sue opere d'arte si oppongono a tutte quelle degli altri musei nel mondo e lo stesso edificio rappresenta un'icona di NYC. Essendo vicino al migliore e più grande parco della città si può pranzare presso un cafè all'interno del museo, di fianco ad un'opera di vetro di Tiffany o ad una scultura di Rodin mentre ammiri il paesaggio di Central Park. Dopodiché suggerirei di prendere un cavallo e trottare attraverso il parco e soffermarsi davanti al PLAZA HOTEL che è stato recentemente rinnovato e che secondo me è il più affascinante hotel della città. C'è una meravigliosa entrata con un bar molto di tendenza dove puoi sostare per un aperitivo. Nella visita di NYC non può mancare WALL STREET per osservare tutte gli edifici e le persone che impazziscono per l'economia e ovviamente da visitare il memoriale dedicato alla strage dell'11/09 che si trova al posto del vecchio World Trade Center per pregare agli innocenti abitanti di New York che persero la loro vita in quella grande tragedia locale.

I: Jodi, che cosa fai nel tuo tempo libero a Manhattan? C'è un particolare ristorante, pub, discoteca o altro dove preferisci trascorrere il tuo tempo?

J: I migliori luoghi dove divertirsi ed incontrare persone sono probabilmente nella zona ovest (lower-mid) di Manhattan. Ci sono tantissimi cafes, bar e birrerie nel quartiere dove cenare qualcosa di tipicamente americano prima di proseguire la serata in un club o discoteca.

I: Jodi, sei mai stata in Italia? Che cosa pensi di questo paese?

J: Sì, l'ho visitata un sacco di tempo fa con la mia famiglia. Eravamo in crociera e ci siamo fermati a Bari e Venezia. Per prima cosa devo dire che il cibo è sublime e l'eccezionale reputazione che vi riguarda è vera. I monumenti sono bellissimi, le persone molto accoglienti, amichevoli e alla moda. Mi sono divertita molto in Italia e il mio solo rammarico è stato quello di aver avuto poco tempo.

INTERVIEW WITH MEZZO SOPRANO VIVICA GENAUX

This time I propose with great verve the interview of the famous mezzo soprano VIVICA GENAUX. Although she was born in Alaska, a State with frigid and arctic weather during the most part of the year, her extraordinary lyric voice fires up the hearts of all who listens to her. She is one of the most notorious mezzo soprano in the world specialized in Classic and Baroque music. In 1994 she started off with Rossini opera "L'italiana in Algeri" playing impeccably the role of Isabella and later followed other very important roles of the same composer as Rosina in "Il barbiere di Siviglia" and Angelina in "La Cenerentola". Though she is an international celebrity, she is connected to Italy both for the roles she plays and because she actually lives in Motta di Livenza. During her career she has also received a lot of awards and merits like the prestigious ARIA Music Award in 1997.

I: Vivica, you were born in the city of FAIRBANKS in ALASKA. In your opinion what is the best period to visit Alaska and what can you suggest to see in Fairbanks?

V: Fairbanks is beautiful year-round! Most people visit between June and August, but experiencing a Fairbanks winter can be an eye-opener; temperatures of -40° C are common around December and January, the sun skims the horizon for 3-4 hours and we have great views of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) during the long hours of darkness. Perhaps the only time I wouldn't recommend Fairbanks is during the first week of spring (in May) when all the winter snow melts and there's a lot of mud! However, it's beautiful then too because within about 3 days all the flowers are in bloom and the trees are bursting with bright green leaves. Nature moves fast there!

Among my favourite things to see in Fairbanks are: the UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA MUSEUM OF THE NORTH, a wonderful collection of Alaska Native arts as well as representations of regional flora and fauna; the WORLD ICE ART CHAMPIONSHIPS held each year in February/March (check out pictures on their website http://www.icealaska.com/sculptures.html) and GOLDEN DAYS,  a week-long celebration in July of Fairbanks' history and spirit including the Golden Days Parade, and the Rubber Duckie Race on Chena River.

I: Vivica, are there some restaurants or pubs you suggest to eat in Fairbanks just to taste a particular dish from Alaska?

V: Salmon and halibut are the most common (and delicious!) Alaskan fish and can be found in most restaurants. King Crab is my absolute favourite and can be found at places like THE PUMP HOUSE (www.pumphouse.com), a beautiful restaurant situated on the banks of the Chena River.

In the summer, I never miss at least one dinner at the Alaska Salmon Bake in PIONEER PARK (formerly Alaskaland). They used to have the best deep-fried halibut and all-you-can-eat salmon and prime-rib.

I: Vivica, actually you live and work in Italy. Do you like an italian city in particular?

V: I actually work only very infrequently in Italy, my repertoire in the past few years has been primarily Baroque, which has not yet made it's "renaissance" in Italy. I do sing often with Italian orchestras, most notably Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante, based out of Parma, but concerts are almost always held in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland... everywhere!
Favorite places to visit in Italy include PORTOBUFFOLE' in the province of Treviso, a very small medieval town where salt used to be unloaded from barges pulled up from the Venetian laguna by buffaloes, and the house of Gaia de Camino (13th C, mentioned in Dante's Purgatory) can be visited. I also love AQUILEIA, in the province of Udine. The basilica, with structural roots as far back as the 2nd C. has some of the most beautiful and best preserved mosaics I've ever seen.

I: Vivica, you travel a lot because of your job. Do you have a particular memory of a city or a state during your journeys?

V: I have always loved travelling and every country and city has things I look forward to seeing again. The Duomo or Dom in each city seems to be a special place for me and I almost always pay a visit to the Stephansdom in Vienna, the Basilica San Marco in Venice, the Duomos in Milan and Florence, the Munster in Basel... I love the architecture and the huge spaces. In the States I enjoy the fact that stores are always open, in Europe I enjoy the fact that fruits and vegetables are most often local and seasonal, in Japan I just love the energy and technology...every country has a different feel and taste.

I: Vivica, you sing and play the main character of lot of Classic and Baroque operas. Do you like one in particular? Is there a role you haven't played yet but you wish to do?

V: I do particularly love singing Angelina in Rossini's "La Cenerentola", but I also like the variety of characters which my career has brought me. I like the "trouser roles" because of the more kinetic physical enery I get to use in singing them on stage, and some of the women I've played in the Baroque operas are stunningly noble, strong and what would today be considered "feminist" characters. There's always a lot to learn from each character I play.
